Prov 3:16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
Prov 3:16 Wisdom offers you long life, as well as wealth and honor. TEV
We have considered the value of wisdom by seeing it compared to rubies, silver and gold. Wisdom is valuable like a profitable investment, yet also like a fruit, its full benefit will develop and be seen in time. We now move to the advantages of wisdom. Today’s verse reveals that wisdom brings long life and riches and honor. These advantages that develop out of wisdom are part of the investment characteristics of wisdom. A lesson by contrast is beneficial here. One who disregards wisdom, whom the Bible calls a fool, sees wisdom as an unnecessary restraint on his desires. He desires to have that roller coaster sensation as he drives on the roads and highways and delights to see the speedometer peg 90 mph as he makes that turn. Wisdom tells him, “Slow down!” The fool responds, “Shut up!” The fool desires sexual enticement at any cost. Wisdom tells him, “Don’t even go there.” The fool responds, “Take a hike.” By listening to wisdom, the wise man avoids many unnecessary risks and has a longer life expectancy than the fool as a result. Choosing wisdom therefore is an investment that may involve a temporary sacrifice but it offers a long-term gain.
